250870 2004-07-09 03:57:00 Hi can anyone help me with the following?
I have Win Me with AMD Athlon XP 2.5Ghz, 512MB Memory and 60GB HDD.
I installed McAfee VirusScan ver 6.02 demo. Decided not to have it after all later on and uninstalled it via the control panel as it had no uninstaller. However, when I open MS Outlook it comes up with an error message: "MS Outlook Add-in C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee VirusScan\Hawkex.dll could not be installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect & Repair on the Help menu. Goes on to say unable to load "blah blah" and "you may be out of memory, system resources or missing a .dll file".
I have used Detect and Repair twice with no success.
I have used system restore prior the installation with no success.
It only does this on Outlook, not Express nor Internet Explorer.
I have searched the MS Outlook folder folder for add-ins - none seen with reference to McAfee's.
Used the search tool to find hawkex.dll and nothing found.
I can't seem to find anything on McAfee's website re this either.
I would appreciate any help I can get from anyone who may be able to resolve this as it is a pain having it popup when I open the program.
TIA. Regards Koolkat

One option would be to uninstall then reinstall Outlook.

make a backup copy of your Outlook.pst and Archive.pst files first.

250872 2004-07-16 02:58:00 Thank you Davesdad for taking the time to reply and I am sorry I haven't got back to you sooner and it was appreciated. It was a good option considering that I tried McAfee's solutions for removing the virusscan registry entries as suggested by them that consequently didn't work!
In the meantime, I decided to can Outlook outright and use Incredimail instead. I exported my address book and settings and mail to this and think I will try this instead. It seems to be so much better than Outlook at the moment. I have searched high and low in my settings in my computer and there is no way that I can find anything related to the entry in Outlook that pops up when I opened Outlook on the desktop. Weird really. Thanks koolkat

250873 2004-07-16 05:14:00 You would just need to remove the Add-In under Outlook?

Tools - Options - Other - Advanced Options - Add-In Manager

Incredimail? ... EEEEK!

Out of the frying pan and into the fire? :D

If you want to try a good email program have a look at Eudora. You can use it for free in the ad-sponsored mode but like Godfather I purchased mine as it is that good.

Alternatively, Thunderbird is another good one to try and is free without adverts. :-)
