| 250954 | 2004-07-09 10:41:00 | Well, Xtra's helpdesk was suggesting that the 'line filter' could be faulty. Will a faulty 'line filter' causes the connection to drop? I thought that it is to filter the phone rather than the adsl signal. Cheers |

| 250955 | 2004-07-09 10:57:00 | I had a problem on the North Shore a couple of nights ago. I could not get a connection and took the plugs out of the ethernet router and put them straight back in again, then waited just a minute which usually fixes the problem. That time no luck so I rang Xtra. The guy who answered told me to re-boot and ring back if there was a problem. There was and I rang back. He said to ring this 0800 number after I had entered the configuration for the DSE router. Spent 30 mins finding the booklet which is written in very, very, small writing ( I kid you not, the smallest I have seen !). I waited on the line while I was told by the repeated voicemail that someone would answer my call. Eventuallee........ ..... this guy answered and I told him how I was ready with the configuration in front of me ... and he said "don't worry about that. There had been problems, re-boot again and if that did not work then wait 30 mins and try again. This time it worked after a few mins ! However, at least an hour of my evening just vanished. Think what I could have done !! Sometimes Xtra/Telecom are great and sometimes *#*##/ * !! Misty :( X-( |

If the line has been split properly then it could be . If it is just a filter in the room then there should not be a filter to get in the way as the filter only goes to the telephone connection . The Router/Modem just plugs straight into the line with no filter . |

| 250958 | 2004-07-10 06:28:00 | yeah - we have problems with our Xtra connection. I'll be playing online...great ping, then the connection comes to a screeching halt. Other times you'll be browsing and a page cant be found, or downloads are stopped/corrupted. Maybe because there are 3 PCs connected to the same router. However the same problem happens when its just one of us online. It can be very annoying. But what am I going to do.... switch service providers? Eventually its all telecom anyway. |

| 250959 | 2004-07-10 06:47:00 | The thing that I cannot understand is that when the outage is there then there is an attempt at a "ping". However, ZoneAlarm, with great glee it seems ! - stops the attempt at a ping and tells you that. I presume that should be identified as an exemption to ZoneAlarm and will I will research that. Before I do that, I must learn more about Firefox, take on-board and execute the suggestions from Susan re re-installing stuff from Adaptec, etc, etc ! So much to do !!! - what was the quote from Alice in Wonderland ?? Misty ?:| |

| 250960 | 2004-07-10 06:52:00 | Don't forget to try removing all other items plugged into the phone jacks and see if this helps if they are still getting outages. I went through a stage of dropping and reconnecting every hour or so (I normally keep the same IP for at least 7 days). It turned out one of my phones had a fault which was causing this problem. Replaced the phone and no problems since. | Jen C (20) | ||

Will try to isolate the problem . I think he has a few items connected to the line with an adaptor or something like that . And he has a cordless phone (through another line-filter) connected to another phone outlet in another room . Will cordless phone affect ADSL connection? Cheers |

| 250963 | 2004-07-10 13:24:00 | hang in there folks... XTRA and telecom have been having faults since Thursday. They had mass WAN outages this morning that may have affected a number of you... In the meantime may this serve as a reminder to consider a better ISP such as InSPire ;) Not to be outdone however, Telstra swapped switches and played with routes left right and centre and their response when things went to custard can be summed up in one word: "DUHHHH?" And over the last few days, Global Gateway has decided to join in the fun and they're having intermittent internal problems... if any browsing to international sites is going slow, do a tracert... I was getting less than 20ms over a 10km+ backhaul wireless link to WIX, and pretty much after WIX, Global Gateway had internal pings of anywhere between 600ms and 1200ms!!! And to think... come november it's only going to get worse! |
