251009 2004-07-09 08:56:00 Just in case you use any of these programs, and have missed the discussion in a few different threads, I thought I would make a more noticable post. :)

On July 7 (yesterday) a security vulnerability affecting browsers for the Windows operating system was posted to Full Disclosure, a public security mailing list. On the same day, the Mozilla security team confirmed the report of this security issue affecting the Mozilla Application Suite, Firefox, and Thunderbird and discussed and developed the fix at Bugzilla bug 250180. We have confirmed that the bug affects only users of Microsoft's Windows operating system. The issue does not affect Linux or Macintosh users.

You can read the full security notice here (mozilla.org) and also get either the patch or a link to upgraded programs with the fix already applied.

There is a sample exploit page here (www.mccanless.us) to test out your browser, but please heed the warnings given before clicking any of the links on that sample page.

as i am still running Firebird what happens about patching then?

is this patch for that as well or am i too outdated???

mostly out of cant be bothered have i upgraded to firefox.

then the bookmark saving looks like a pain and extension reinstalling nightmmare so i have stuck with firebird.

it would be easier to upgrade to firefox im presuming?

251011 2004-07-09 09:15:00 It would be a good idea to upgrade to Firefox Beetle . Saving your bookmarks is easy but you will need to do the extensions again .

Save your bookmarks by doing a search for bookmarks . html on your hard drive and copy the file somewhere safe, eg to My Documents . You then need to delete the Firebird folder in Program Files and also in Documents and Settings . Easy way to find the folders in the latter is to do another search for "Firebird" and "Mozilla" then find and delete those folders . You are then ready to install Firefox and import your bookmarks back again . ;-)

251012 2004-07-09 09:27:00 what if i was to export them to my docs?

as doing a search finds multiple other pages all leading to mozilla web pages?

sorry Jen.

That is a good idea :). When you have Firefox installed, just go Import and then navigate to your saved bookmarks.html. Easy as! :D

It is good to have the choice of alternative browsers other than IE but it is even better to have the choice of operating systems other than Windows for those people who want a secure reliable experience.
