2004-07-09 00:37:00 | When downloading DV from my camcorder via USB to my PC running Windows XP Pro, I get a slight lag between action and sound. Probably a bit less than half a second, but it is very annoying. Has anyone else had this problem and overcome it? Is it just Sony's crappy USB driver? (Imagemixer as supplied is absolute crap I have found). | billc (821) | |
2004-07-09 00:50:00 | Is your system in prime operating condition?,by rights the video and audio should be locked into sync by the camera but it can't hurt to do the basics before a capture... ...as in disable anti-virus and other programs that may access the harddrive or use needed resources,do a full scan for spyware, get rid off all windows bloat files, defragg the hd. Done and dusted. And if your capturing via usb then its a good idea to go upmarket and use firewire, better quality all round.

2004-07-09 02:15:00 | Thanks for that. Sound is perfect when playing to TV direct from the camera, so there is no problem there. As for the PC, I haven't tried disabling anti-virus so maybe that is worth a try. The camera has a connector for what Sony calls 'i.Link' which is IEEE 1394 apparently. I would need to get the correct cable and an add on card for the PC to use this I guess. Would this be a better connection? | billc (821) | |
2004-07-09 02:49:00 | Hi billc, IEEE 1394 and Sony i.Link are just different names for firewire which metla mentioned. This would be a far better method of connecting than using USB. You should be able to pick up a firewire cable from DSE (dse.resultspage.com 751&site=&w=firewire+cable&submit.x=10&submit.y=12) for around $20. Just make sure you get the correct cable for the add-on card you choose. Firewire cables are available in 4-pin to 4-pin and 4-pin to 6-pin varieties. Cheers Miami

2004-07-09 03:17:00 | Indeed,i just picked up a dv camera on the weekend, done some file capturing via usb and i was less then impressed,It encodes into mpg1(low res,low quality) and i was dropping around 100 frames every 5 minutes.(which is what causes the out-of-sync audio) To my eternal shame i had to pay a vist to dse myslf and pick up an outragiously priced firewire cable(can anyone say 150 percent markup?) The end reults were perfect, far far superior to the unacceptable results from using usb.
