| 251590 | 2004-07-11 19:22:00 | I scanned and emailed a document it was 3.6MB and took about 20 minutes to e-mail. Doesn't sound right does it??? Running Windows XP and a HP1210 Multi. I use Incredimail. When I tried to configure Outlook eExpress it wouldn't work an xtra tech said I would have to disable my firewall - that doesn't sound right either?? | Sherilee (4441) | ||

That does sound right, from experience. 3.6MB is a big file, and if you're on dial-up it will take a while to send it. I don't think it has anything to do with the email program you are using. |

| 251592 | 2004-07-11 22:06:00 | The scan size is right . You have to realise that a scanner produces a graphical image unless you use an OCR (optical character recognition) program . This will produce a text file that is editable and it will be very much smaller in size . No, it doesn't sound right that Outlook Express won't work with a firewall . The tech is either very ignorant, the firewall is very weird or you misunderstood him/her . You need to provide more details of what you tried to do and what errors you got for anyone to help get OE going . |

| 251594 | 2004-07-12 01:00:00 | What was the file format? .tif? Surely not .bmp? I agree, best to OCR it into a .txt, .doc or .rtf file. Did the scanner vendor not give away an OCR program - Mirascan, or something similar? If not, they're cheapskates. Windows XP has inbuilt OCR as part of its "scanner and camera wizard". (Why do I always think of Terry Pratchett's incompetent Discworld wizards or Rowling's Neville Longbottom when that term comes up?) Argus |
