251542 2004-07-11 06:24:00 I have just read thru the long saga from Maryanne and PJ about screen area size, and thought I may have the answer to my woes. I am using an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 410CDT laptop. My problem developed in -between sessions and instead of the display filling the screen it now has a border and is shown as 640x480. The correct resolution is probably 800x600? I have tried changing this in the display settings in normal and safe mode but the slider will not move. I have also deleted the entry from the Display Adapters in Device Manager and reloaded. No luck. Perhaps someone with computer savvy can help? Morse (4575)

251544 2004-07-12 05:01:00 Thanks Patrick. I have visited Toshiba website and downloaded drivers for the display adapter onto a floppy. The question now is how do I load them into my laptop? :( Morse (4575)
251545 2004-07-12 05:08:00 P.S. to above - my computer is running Windows 98 SE. The only comment on graphics in the specs is "Graphics Accelerator BitBLT support" which means nothing to me! Morse (4575)
251546 2004-07-12 05:10:00 try this
1. instert the flopy in the laptop
2.go to my computer
3.double click on the floppy drive
4.find the .exe file and double click on it
5.follow the on screen instructions
6.make sure u reboot

251547 2004-07-13 06:18:00 Thanks Patrick but had no joy trying to load drivers. The file on the floppy does not have the extension .EXE - it has a square icon with a blue line at the top with three white dots thru it. When I double click to open it a Dos window opens with the following

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Disk eXPress Self-Extracting Diskette Image (OS/2 and DOS) V2.34 07/08/94 - some copyright comments then SHAREWARE VERSION

Usage: CT48PW45 [/d] [/s] [/t] [drive:]

/d Display image description
/s Supress overwrite prompt
/t Test image file integrity only
drive Drive letter of target diskette drive

Note: The target diskette must be formatted and must not have any bad sectors.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I dont understand the comments about the target diskette as I do not wish to copy it but to run it. I have copied it to my hard drive but makes no difference. I have put the floppy into my other computer (desktop) but I cant even open the file there.

251548 2004-07-13 06:35:00 mmmmm oh no what to do now???, well morse im not sure what to do nowmaybe other techies may help, sorry i could completely help Patrick 2003 (277)
251549 2004-07-13 07:08:00 Store the file on your HDD where you can find it under DOS.
Put a blank formatted disk in A:

Drop to DOS, and move to the directory where you have stored the file, and type what its asking you to:

filename <space> A:

That will do exactly what you have posted, extract the self extracting file to a disk, where the "real" driver will be unpacked and written.

Then the file on the disk should be able to be run.

You will need some basic DOS understanding and ability for the above.

It is explaining that you have a compressed file, that will self extract to a floppy drive and create the original version of the uncompressed file.

251550 2004-07-14 05:49:00 Yay!!!!
Patrick - thanks for your help and interest. Much appreciated.

godfather - We have struck gold at last. After much to and fro-ing and blundering about I got the self-extract to work and found a compatible driver amongst those listed on the unzipped file. I had a problem getting the colors correct. They seemed to be stuck on 16 bit and when I changed to higher colors the screen area dropped back to 640x480. However after a fair bit of muddling it has come right and I have recorded all the display settings and relative info as my 72-year old memory is not the best.

A thousand thanks to you both. :D :D
