251540 2004-07-11 05:50:00 I am about to install a Molex SilentDrive but want to create a bootable backup image just in case things go wrong . I have already backed up my important files onto CD, but I have noticed that my PC Company recovery CD-ROM (which has the Windows installation) won't load because it detects that I've changed the motherboard, processor, etc . I've actually moved the hard drive from my existing PC Co . machine to the new PC, so there shouldn't be any licensing issues . So the thing is that I need a bootable CD that would allow me to reinstall / refresh Windows if need be .

I have a copy of DriveImage 4 . 0 that came with my Soltek NV400-L64 motherbord, but when I run the program from boot disks (to avoid those 'not enough memory' messages that occur in DOS mode) it comes up with an error #4001 . The documentation does not explain any errors above 4000 . Does anyone have any idea what this error is all about? How can I get my hard drive imaged?

I have looked on the Symantec website (since they bought out PowerQuest) and they have discontinued support for version 4 . 0 . I hope that I won't need to fork out more money for their latest version (7 . 0 / 2002), especially since I would have already paid some licensing fee as part of the cost for the motherboard . Is there any way to create some rescue CD similar to the PC Company recovery CD so that any recoveries won't be restricted by the hardware?

Thanks for any help .

251541 2004-07-12 06:15:00 Just thought I'd push this thread up the stack further. If no-one has any idea about the DriveImage errors, what would be other ways to back up Windows to a 'rescue CD' type system, or get around those heavy-handed hardware checks on the PC Company recovery CD?
