251449 2004-07-11 01:31:00 When I open MS Word I have unusual word documents [under open a document] in the help bar on the right hand side off the page. They appear to be files from "Temporary Internet Files" but I cannot open them. An example is "Doc2.doc". Thanks in advance. chas88 (5869)
251450 2004-07-11 03:52:00 Hello Chas and welcome to Press F1.

No-one has answered your question yet so I thought I would reply and bring back to the top of the list.

I don't understand the problem because I can't replicate it on MS Word on my PC. Can you supply a few more details please, such as :

What version of Word are you using?
Exactly where do you see this? e.g. Start Word, File, Open, etc or is it somewhere else?
Or do you see this only after you have opened a Word document from within your e-mail programme? (Sometime this happens) Or after you have visited certain websites?
If you do a search using Windows Explorer, can you locate the document anywhere on your hard drive?

My gut feel is this is either a blank new document that was not saved or it was a document that you received through e-mail and looked at from your e-mail without saving it - but I could be wrong.

Cheers
Andrew

251451 2004-07-11 04:16:00 Hi, suggest do a search and find location of Doc2.doc. Then open Wordpad |File | Open| go to location | click arrow down to alter Files of Type to Word for Windows{*.doc} | click on Doc2.doc
This works in WordPad and should work in Word if you alter Files of Type to
All Files {*.*} or Word for Windows{*.doc}

251453 2004-07-11 23:51:00 You can upload the image to sal.neoburn.net , it'll save you emailing it to everyone. Growly (6)
251454 2004-07-12 02:13:00 If what I suggested does'nt work, the problem could be that Doc2.doc was produced by a later version of Word than you have installed. Suggest as a precaution fully update your antivirus and do a full scan. Open Word |Help| About MS Word, note version and build info. Copy Doc2.doc onto a floppy and see if someone with the latest version can open it. FrankS (257)
251455 2004-07-12 02:22:00 Or, if you have your browser set to delete temporary files on exit, the file that was viewed (doc2.doc) no longer exists.

Its in the list because it was loaded there to view when it was accessed, but the file has now been deleted. That does not delete it from the list of recently accessed files in Word however.

251456 2004-07-12 02:57:00 Hi, Im not clear on your problem but if you select File from the menu at the bottom will be a list of the Most Recently Used (MRU for short) files. If you change the name or location of these files then this list is not updated - it will produce an error and say it cant find the file if you select one that has been moved/deleted. To 'clean up' this list select Tools|Options|General Tab and uncheck the Most Recently Used option then click OK. If you select File again you will see that they have all been cleared. Select Tools|Options|General Tab again and put a check next to the option and choose your # of files you would like to keep in the MRU.

251457 2004-07-12 05:04:00 This makes sense [below] . . . I am always deleting temporary internet files . The odd virus I get is always in that area hence the deleting . The files are on the list however I have never knowingly opened them . They also appear to have been residing the Tempory Internet File area .

Or, if you have your browser set to delete temporary files on exit, the file that was viewed (doc2 . doc) no longer exists .

Its in the list because it was loaded there to view when it was accessed, but the file has now been deleted . That does not delete it from the list of recently accessed files in Word however .

251458 2004-07-12 05:57:00 Anything you view over a web link that is in a Word document format will open in Word, even though you "think" you are viewing it in your browser. Word actually launches from within the browser.

The MRU list cannot become populated unless Word has accessed the file.

The fact that the files are in the Temporary Internet Files location is what suggests this is what has happened, as thats exactly where the copy would default to.

Its not a fault, or anything that you need to correct. As you open other files the MRU list changes and the "missing" ones drop off the bottom.
