251232 2004-07-10 04:57:00 I have made several unsuccessful attempts at upgrading I E 5 to I E 6, following all the prompts. The operating system is Win ME, I suspect that this is the problem. Am I correct in this ? Doberman (5862)

no. ie6 works with winME just fine.

any reason you are upgradeing IE ??

when you try to upgrade are there any error messages? can you discribe what happens when it fails to upgrade.

make sure everything is set back to default, do an IE repair if need be. make sure any spyware/adware/malware are removed from pc. turn off antivirus (don't forget to turn it back on afterwoulds).

if all that fails then you may need to break IE out (IE eradicator i think may work with ME) and then install IE6.

251234 2004-07-12 10:05:00 This is the only message I get, repeatedly

message reads " Setup was uable to install the components. Please close all applications and try running setup again".

You mention completely removing I E 5 i guess this is my next step

Umm it should have been done ages ago. IE 5.0 is more vulnerable than the French army at summer camp.

251236 2004-07-13 07:42:00 Really long story but the short of it is; Keep getting prompts from Microsoft and sick and tired of being re-directed to their website. Dont know about the french army tho - interesting analogy Doberman (5862)
251237 2004-07-13 08:15:00 Hi Doberman,

Have a read of this Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - You Cannot Finish Installing or Upgrading Internet Explorer (support.microsoft.com) and the relevant section for WinME.
