First see if you can use your installation disc for Mandrake as a "rescue disc" to access your Linux partition - some distro's have this feature. Check out the Mandrake website support section to see whether your disc has this boot option. Another option is to use a Live-CD such as Knoppix which you can use to access your Linux files. You will probably need to use chroot to mount the drive. You will need to reinstall Lilo to the MBR once you have root access to your partition [/sbin/lilo]. Once you have Lilo reinstalled, you should make a boot disk. In a console window, enter in uname -r to get the running kernel. Then as root, enter in [b]mkbootdisk <kernel name>. Put in a floppy and hit Enter. |

Just follow the instructions given here (www.lula.org) to use the disc to chroot to your root partition (ignore the instructions on changing the password). Once in your root (/) partition, just run the command /sbin/lilo to reinstall Lilo to your MBR. Exit out and reboot the machine, fingers crossed, you should have Lilo showing both Windows XP and Mandrake boot options. | Jen C (20) | ||
