251519 2004-07-13 20:59:00 I'm surprised no-one has suggested it (either that or I misread one of the posts) but my recommendation to you would be to increase your RAM. XP is a real hog when it comes to RAM. You might want to invest in another 256MB stick.

That should give you a little boost as well.

cheers

251520 2004-07-13 22:17:00 I will add more ram.....I didn't think that was the problem as I have a laptop that has nearly as many programs running on it and it only had 128mb ram..and I never had any error messages etc....but since have added more ram to speed it up.

Thanks everyone for your help it has been greatly appreciated.

Whilst another 256MB of RAM would be useful Win XP can run quite well on 256MB in normal, everyday circumstances. In my view there is something else causing the problems but without actually seeing the computer I would not know what.

251522 2004-07-13 23:40:00 I tend to agree with you Susan. I have just read the article that Jen suggested on memory and checked the performance virtual memory system. I discovered the system paging file was off.....do you think this maybe the problem? I have reset it to initial 250mb and maximum 800mb....that was what it suggested setting it to in the article. jonzsie (2689)
251523 2004-07-14 00:10:00 If paging was off, that certainly was the problem. With only 256MB in the comp you should perhaps make the initial larger to reduce the number of times the system will have to expand the page file. PaulD (232)
