| 252047 | 2004-07-13 10:38:00 | A question for the gamers, or hardware experts, I Replaced a GeForce video card Ti 4200 64 meg (4x AGP) with a ATI 9600 Pro 256meg (8x AGP), My 3D marks score (3D Marks 2001 SE) has gone from 10 000 to 8700 marks, This has got me stumped & very upset, paid $300.00 to lose performance. Specs MBoard Asus A7V 333 (only 4x AGP) is this my problem ATI card does support 4x AGP. Latest drivers all installed These include Via drivers, ATI, Bois drivers. System is Win Xp Pro. I would love to know what is going on here? all ideas will be much appreciated. Cheers Marty |

Otherwise try again by uninstalling your cards utilities and drivers. Go to StartPrograms, and see if theres an uninstall entry for your graphics card software. Also check the card makers website for information on uninstalling software. Then go to Windows Device Manager, double-click Display Adaptors, select your existing card and click Remove. Then do a fresh install. Hope it helps |

Either way you wont get an off the planet increase in 3dmark over your g4ti,the ati cards excel at high res with AA and A-filtering |

| 252053 | 2004-07-13 22:09:00 | Thanks for all the replies, All of them made sense, but I had tried most of them already, Just to recap and fill in any gaps I may have missed out in my first post I have reformatted, this computer dual boots, (games side is bare min and no backround apps running, (also used msconfig to stop any other programs starting up with out me knowing) Still don't know if running 8x AGP card at 4x AGP is a problem some people think it could be an issue. But I don't want to spend $$ for a new board that supports 8x to find is not going to help Buy the way I am only running AMD XP 2000+, is this going to be a bottle neck "Kenshin" I brought his card a while ago ~$280.00 and yes I do know I could buy card for around $230 O:( now just adds to my frustration Cheers |

| 252054 | 2004-07-14 01:46:00 | I was running my card at 4x AGP on my old motherboard with sd-ram which died a few weeks later. It got around 5000 3d Marks. Then with my new motherboard and RAM at 8x AGP it gets about 5600 3d Marks. So you get a slight improvement. I don't think you should really waste more money on a new MB just yet. Is it smooth in games? What is your 3d Mark 03 score? |

Think about the poor saps who purchased a slow single format dvd-writer for big dollars a year ago. |

Try running 3DMark03 you should notice a huge increase in score, something like 1600 for the Ti and 3300 for the 9600. | Pete O'Neil (250) | ||
