| 252031 | 2004-07-13 10:26:00 | I am looking for some financial software with a strong emphasis on job costing. The business is bigger than can be handled with MYOB, Quick Books and the like. I have had a look around and can't find much for the middle size business. Does anyone know af anything? | wotz (335) | ||

I wouldn't recommend any sort of ERP software (such as SAP, JDE, Oracle etc.) for any large business, let alone a mid-sized business - pretty soon the software will be running your business rather than the other way round. IMHO MYOB is a joke and how they every got to their current market share I'll never know. There is a local software developer with their own financial software which includes a job module - I can't vouch for it because whilst I have used their software (for 8 years now), I haven't used the job module (yet). The software is Moneyworks, it is good, more intuitive than MYOB, much easier to use, their developers listen to your suggestions and they have online downloads etc BUT it is still a software for a small business (same target market as MYOB). I wouldn't recommend Pascal (modular), Exonet (terrible!), NZ Accounts (amateur) - can't speak for Prophet or Sage. Moneyworks got a good review recently in the NBR here (www.nbr.co.nz) The Cognito web site is here : www.cognito.co.nz HTH |

| 252037 | 2004-07-13 21:53:00 | I have used Prophet for several years and it is very flexible. A little complicated to set up, at least the original DOS version was. But once you have the hang of it, it becomes a very useful tool. You can either purchase the software outright (at a cost of $2-3000 depending on configuration) or pay a monthly lease. There is also compulsary membership to the customer benefits plan with upgrades and support which costs another grand. The Fasttrak lease plan offers the software and CBP combined for a monthly fee. I have no experience with the job costing module, but I know it integrates seamlessly with the other modules including Attache's new payroll system. |
