| 252027 | 2004-07-13 03:48:00 | After 5½ years I have finally upgraded my PC. :) How do I import Favorites (bookmarks) from my 98 PC to my new XP ? Yes Yes, I know there is an Import function on IE6, under File, but it does not work for me: I transferred the Favorites folder from my old PC (via CD-RW) but the Import wizard will only handle individual URLs. So.......... I opened the 98 Favorites folder and copied all of the contents (html URLs) and pasted them into the Favorites folder on the new XP 'puter. But no luck. Is there a free program that will do the transfer or another way to do it? Thanks -- Steve |

| 252028 | 2004-07-13 05:20:00 | You mentioned that you transferred the favourites folder - did you do this from Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer? I recently migrated the favourites for a client from a Win 98 PC to an XP PC via Internet Explorer, File, Export, Favourites wizard on the Win 98 PC and then used the file import on the XP PC. Worked fine. Have you tried the export wizard on the 98 PC? | andrew93 (249) | ||

Alternatively just move the entire Favorites folder to replace the current Favorites folder under your Username's folder. | Fire-and-Ice (3910) | ||

I forgot to change the read-only attribute :( , which I have done many a time when tranferring files off a CD, but for some reason forgot today. >did you do this from Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer? ?:| Neither. I did not use the export function on the Win98 IE, and I hardly ever use Explorer for anything - instead I just go into C drive (or D drive for other HD) and get what I need..... maybe actually it is WinExplorer that I use - dunno - I just click on the C drive shortcut on the desktop. Anyhow, all is well. Now to see if I am successful doing the Netscape swap over from 98 to XP. I prefer Netscape with the tabbed browsing AND it not being Microsoft / open to intrusion. Eventually I will try Firefox which I have heard is quite good. Cheers, and thanks again. - Steve |
