251753 2004-07-12 08:55:00 Hi people one of my mate has given me his pc to try and fix but I'm stumped because I have tryed just about everything I can think of. Here is the setup: Amd 2000xp 512Ram, 80Gig Hd, 10Gig Hd, Radeon 9600XT, Liteon DVD Burner and a LG DVD Drive. The Radeon and the DVD Burner are new, just added to the system the motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-7DXR and now it wont load up XP and keeps saying Boot disk failure. I also notice that the 10gig wont show up in the bios but everything else does, any suggestions ? overdrive_5000 (1684)
251754 2004-07-12 09:02:00 So, how about you tell us what you have tried already, so we don't play 20 questions and have you reply "nope, I already tried that."

It will save a lot of time and frustration.

251755 2004-07-12 09:08:00 Ok well I have tried changing the boot sequence, the jumpers, have tried different combinations with the drives. But still no luck. I have downloaded the latest update for the bios but havent tried that yet will do 2morrow. I think thats it overdrive_5000 (1684)
251756 2004-07-12 09:15:00 Have you tried disconnecting everything except the original bootable drive with the OS on it? If it worked before all the extras were added, restore it ti its original state by going back to square 1 and starting again, one addition at a time.

Logical diagnosis from first principles: Find out if the bare system is still capable of booting. Go back to a boot floppy or bootable CD if you have to, but find out which stage of the upgrade process is preventing boot.

251757 2004-07-12 09:17:00 Oh, and leave the bios alone for now, that may just add to your woes and there is no good reason to suspect a fault there yet.
