252063 2004-07-12 08:31:00 With your PC specs, you can choose any Linux distro :)

But I would recommend Xandros for you. It is very user friendly and not such a scarey difference to Windows in appearance. It is Linux tho and not Windows - keep that in mind.

A recent magazine had Xandros 2.0 Standard Ed on it which is very nice. It normally costs a few $. There is the free version of Xandros called Xandros OCE, which you can download via BitTorrent but it has a limited CD burning speed and they have packaged it with Opera as the default browser instead of Mozilla.

252066 2004-07-12 08:38:00 Just found my magazine - it was on the Australian PC Authority April 2001 Issue 77.

The MSN clone in Linux is called aMSN (http://amsn.sourceforge.net/), although GAIM works like the Windows Trillian, and does a variety of IM protocols included MSN.

Umm ... well ATI and Linux are not what you would call bosom-buddies when it comes to driver support so I doubt you will be overclocking your card under Linux. You can see what Video support you will get under Xandros here (www.xandros.com).

>Could I DC++ it off You

I could send you a copy of the Xandros 2.0 Standard Ed CD in the snail-mail, it would be much faster. Wait a bit first, and see what other Distro's that get suggested for you, you may like to try something other than Xandros. Let me know later if you still want to go for Xandros. :)

252070 2004-07-12 09:27:00 Gods-Hitman:
If you want, I'll put the ISO on my ftp and you can l33ch it from my server PC in my room if you're going for National Traffic here.

Either that or I'd take Jen up on her offer of posting out Xandros :-)

Add me to the list of "For Xandros Linux" people.

Chill.

ICS is known in Linux by it's more generic name - NAT (Network Address Translation). ICS is the MS version of this. Some distributions have GUI setups for this (e.g. Mandrake I believe). Otherwise it is just a few lines in a script, e.g.:

modprobe iptable_nat
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net,ipv4/ip_forward
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_dynaddr

where ppp0 is the name of your external interface. Use the last line only for dynamic TCP/IP addressing. Make sure that iptables is running and that you have a firewall - often the above lines are included in the firewall.
