| 251904 | 2004-07-13 01:29:00 | >how it was a budget cpu. That would be an understatement (or is it an overstatement?). Well anyway - Celerons suck. So does my Duron. Wait a few months and then maybe a new computer will be worthwile. A much better one will be a heck of a lot cheaper then anyhow! |

| 251906 | 2004-07-14 12:08:00 | I'd download Aida32, run it, find out exactly what motherboard you have, and then we can talk about getting the best CPU for the board that you can get. Lo. |

With all due respect, I know its nice to say you have the latest and the greatest, but most home users are simply throwing their money away.... Get a graphics card first, then see if your parents will let you upgrade further. |

I must report of a few incidents where I friends brought CPUs that weren't required for the tasks they were doing, including gaming. Some brought a Celeron, say 1.8Ghz, then brought a P4, say 2.6, others added 512mb ram to their current 512mb ram, making 1gb of ram. And yet... I told them there wouldn't be change in loading time as well as many other factors, they all told me there would be. So we went for the test, we timed the program loading time of many programs, from Word to Photoshop, while the old hardware was in. Then repeated the process with the new hardware, I timed it and kept it on my watch while my friends continously told me WOW! it's so much faster. But having known I was there, they said, shame! your wrong, look at your own watch. Then I showed it to them, they were like "Oh what! Na, your watch is crap" Now, I don't know the psychological reasons behind why they would think it goes faster, but that just goes to show that in many instances, you don't need more resources that what you really need. Too much money are being wasted! Thought of the Day: New Zealanders are the greatest money lenders and spenders in the world. We are the worst money savers. We have the greatest number per head of population with mortgages and things like that. Yes! You just have to pay the loan off on time, but wouldn't you want to pay it off sooner!?! Alot of parents with teenagers would still have a small loan to pay off, but they can't do so with their children asking for more money continously. By the way, I am a teenager myself. Just telling you other teens out there that we need to respect our parents hard-earned money. You don't know how hard it is to earn money until you actually start doing it. Don't waste it! |

| 251911 | 2004-07-15 01:29:00 | surely they do more with programs then just open them? Word is irrilevent as it opens too fast to time anyway,it belongs in the instant catagory. As for photoshop,Open up a 50mb picture and apply a couple of filters, the difference will be huge. Besides that windows xp loads faster quite notibly depending on the cpu, provided the os is in good shape and not getting bogged down by crapola. |

| 251912 | 2004-07-15 01:31:00 | yes well said, although i must say that in some things 1gb of ram makes all the difference, for example my battlefield 1942 loads in about half the time of growly's simpy because of the extra ram (an he even has faster hard drives) so yes for office applications the extra ram is totally wasted (except when you get into those HUGE excel spreadsheets :D ) but for anyone into gaming 512mb of ram is fast becoming too little |
