| 251806 | 2004-07-17 20:20:00 | Makes you wonder just how much profit some stores expect to make. For example: MEC, the wholesalers, for Panasonic Printers. Reccomended retail price for KX-P7100 $299 + gst. DSE sell them at $499 inc gst. About $150 above reccomended price. Jack |

The last 4 digits were the floor cost of the item or what it cost HN to put the goods on their shop floor. Don't forget PROFIT is not a dirty word. Excessive profit across the WHOLE shop range is but what some stores make on one item often makes up for the lack of profit on some other items. If consumers actually paid the true cost of goods with a fair profit attached many large items would increase in price and accessories would drop in $$. I am no longer in retail having just changed jobs but I have been involved in the Electrical Retail industry for the last 8 years. When I first started stores were averaging 20% profit and as such could offer decent discounts to the consumer. When I left the average profit had dropped to about 14% and with some areas (computers) becoming uneconomic to stock at a 4% to 7% profit margin. Sadly customers still DEMANDED discounts at even that low margin as various consumer programs have drummed into them that all shops and retailers are trying to rip them off. Instead of hunting for the biggest discounter why not try to find a shop that offers you what you want at the price you are prepared to pay?? Remember back up service after sale can often be worth the price difference of a cheaper price. |

| 251809 | 2004-07-18 02:14:00 | I'm a sales rep for Home Direct now. Cruise around in a truck all day selling clothes and bedding and all sorts. I actually get a decent pay now. Kid no 4 is coming in about a month so need the $$ The job is good and I'm outdoors again which I love and both the company and the goods are great so I'm happy. I know there will be some who have trouble believing it but I actually do have ethics lol. |

| 251810 | 2004-07-18 03:38:00 | I'm actually quite happy with DSE's prices . I recently went in to a local branch to get an ipod (oh sweat sweat ipod baby) . Anyway, they have the cheapest 15gb ipods at $543, and I spoke to the manager and managed to get the 15gb ipod, leather carry case and PCI firewire card for $593 . A pretty good deal if you ask me considering that a 15gb ipod at noel leeming and other similar stores is about $580 . You can bargain with most places, just get the manager, their the ones that can make those sort of decisions! Most retail stores are willing to take some $$$ off, i got $10 off some Sennheiser phones from Eastern hifi . - David |
