251894 2004-07-12 23:24:00 My thoughts:
For Loh's office - They wont be noticing the difference between a 2ghz celeron and if they'd been given 1.6Ghz durons.
End of the day, both are more than enough to do the work they appear to do, so who cares which is purchased?! You can play DivX on any 500Mhz upwards PC so no complaints there.

Now, if they were going to be encoding DivX, making high-end multimedia presentations, and doing things that require major CPU Usage, then you'd worry about minor performance...

....But worrying about the millisecond difference it takes Office 2003 to load up?! Why bother? Do they really notice? Do they really care? Do the larger part of them even know what a Celeron is?!!!!

251895 2004-07-12 23:27:00 hmm yes... but why is everyone talking about buissness people and there computers im not in a buisness this is my home pc that i play games with.....

so what do people think of 2.4ghz P4

251896 2004-07-12 23:33:00 Upgrade your graphics card first, a 2.0Ghz Celeron is _not_ the bottleneck in your PC, rather the fx5200 would be.

Get something a little more up-scale and you should see better results :-)

251897 2004-07-12 23:36:00 well i already upgraded my graphices people have 2.8ghz P4 and have that graphices card so, i think its the cpu before it had 32mb Hiren (3722)
251898 2004-07-12 23:42:00 That last message doesnt make sense to me sorry...
What graphics card do you have?
Chilling_Silence (9)
251899 2004-07-12 23:47:00 right now i have 128 g force fx5200 and before i hade this 32mb i was saying that people have this graphices card with more higher cpu than mine and it works fine so i think it is my cpu its the only thing i havent upgraded and people say celeron are not good for overclocking...so im saying what do u think of 2.4ghz pentuim 4 Hiren (3722)
251900 2004-07-13 00:03:00 Understandably it will work fine because its not the bottleneck.

Ive run a 128MB GeForce 4 Ti 4400 on a 1.46Ghz AMD Athlon XP 1700+ w/512MB Ram and it'd out-perform your PC any day, mainly due to the fact the graphics card is so much better!

So what IM now saying is this:
Yes, that card will work fine on a faster PC but thats not the point
The point is the bottleneck is your graphics card - not your CPU!

251901 2004-07-13 00:32:00 The p4 will be a worthy upgrade, But chill is right on the money, Your graphics card is what will be hampering game performance, and forget your thoughts on the amount of ram on the card, its irrelevant as its the chipset that defines the performance, You bought the cheapest video card and the performance will reflect that.

Heck, even my 64mb g4ti4200 would leave your fx5200 crying and bloody.

I suggest you run 3dmark and then do a compare, you won't be happy.

251902 2004-07-13 00:54:00 Why did you buy Celeron if you knew you were going to play games on it anyway?

Yes, a P4 2.4 upgrade would be good. But it does seem a bit of a waste of money. Go get a graphic card first. Being the neutral-branded graphic card buyer (i.e. no fan of nVadia or ATi), I find the Ati Radeon 9600XT to be quite good value for money and perfomance. The 9800 series seems to be dropping rapidly in price, so that might be worth a look too.
