Received Trojan horse downloader small 4.40 . It was located in C:\System Volume Information/restore 68DCCD3E - 2073 -4915-A5DC-A445A55876AD RP179\A0030246-dll AVG picked it up. I presume AVG got rid of it.
The only programme that won't work is Microsft Outlook. I cannot send or receive emails. Checked with internet service provider and all connections and settings are fine yet Outlook gives me this message when trying to send emails. Än unknown error has occerred. Save and restart programme. Error 0x80040605. Problem logging on to your mailserver. You need to enter a passowrd. Error 0x800ccc92. Does this mean the trojan is still on my pc and what can I do to correct it. Internet connection is fine. Many thanks

251933 2004-07-13 01:16:00 The Trojan you list is in System Restore Files, so the AVG program cannot access it.

Disable system restore, reboot, enable system restore.

That will purge all system restore files and the trojan with them.

Regarding Outlook, can't be specific as you do not mention what version of Windows, or what version of Outlook.
However you may need to repair it.

251935 2004-07-13 08:57:00 Operating Windows XP Home Edition.
Since my last post I cannot log in on the computer at all. I am asked for Owners password and the prompt tells me it is my surname yet when I put it in in lower case it is rejected. What can I do please?

251936 2004-07-13 09:15:00 Boot into safe mode (press f8 before it has the windows XP splash screen and choose one of the three safe mode options), and log in as "Owner" without a password. If that dosen't work, try "Administrator" without a password Megaman (344)

251939 2004-07-14 13:09:00 Did as you all suggested. I am sure the trojan has gone. BUT, when I ran ad-aware this is what it said; 131 Objects recognized, 1 Process identified, 97 Registry keys identified, 5 Registry values identified, 26 files identified, 2 Folders identified. Main problem identified was Hotbar download. I have yet to complete ad-aware as I intend to re-run it and show the owner and user of the laptop what damage can be done if regular maintenance is not done. She is a newer newbie than me. Thank you all so much for all your help.....(wonderful as usual) summertime (2568)
