251923 2004-07-12 23:15:00 hey there fellow press f1ers
its time for me to get a graphics card, and so i looked at my m/b manual to see if it can take a agp graphics card and it think it does but as i read on i saw this "Note: P4BGA supports AGP 2.0 slot for external AGP
4X mode Graphics Card only." what does this exactly mean?? does it mean that it only supports 4x graphic cards? or if i buy a 8x graphics card will it work but only at 4x??
what would be some good graphic cards for 4x?
what would be some good graphic cards for 8x?
and also what does this mean?? "Note: AGP 1.5V connector only. Does not support 3.3V or Universal AGP connectors."

here are my specs:
P41.8GHz Northwood
256RAM
Win XP Home
P4BGA Motherboard

i hope some one can clear this up for me cause im stumped :P :D

The AGP slot won't support AGP 1.0 (1x, 2x AGP)

A lot of AGP 8x cards will work in a 4x slot but it pays to research before you buy.

Have a look at Ascent (http://www.ascent.co.nz/) They have good info about products and links to manufacturers sites.

251925 2004-07-12 23:58:00 thanks davesdad, so it would be best if a brought a apg8x that supports also 4x. what about if it supports 2x and 1x as well, will it still work? Patrick 2003 (277)
251926 2004-07-13 01:24:00 Yes it will, it will run as high as it possible can - and as this is above the 2x your board can't support then it will work. Growly (6)

Yes, although I don't think any 8x cards support 2x or 1x
