1366017 2014-01-24 06:36:00 Someone mentioned this week that a Telecom tech told him Windows 8.1 does not work with the Fibre Modem supplied by Telecom.

I am using Windows 8.1 on my laptop and it seems to work Ok with the fibre modem. But in saying that, I do have a few issues with browser not opening pages from time to time. It doesn't appear to have any patterns, sometimes it is fresh boot, sometimes it is resume from sleep, other times, it will work one minute but not the next. I mentioned ages ago in another thread that the MS Office 365 portal actually works better in FireFox than in IE/Chrome, I have since been told to run IE in Private browsing mode and it works better, weird.

LogMeIn also seems to work better in Firefox than IE/Chrome as well on Win8.1, but it is still not 100%. I found that it "usually" fix it if I do ipconfig /flushdns and then either refresh the window or close the tab and start a new one. Any one know why ???

1366018 2014-01-24 07:27:00 There was a post relating to that issue either last week or the week or three before. Try setting the DNS servers address instead of auto. Look back and you'll find the post :)

Edited: Found it pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

1366019 2014-01-25 09:16:00 Encountered exactly the same problems as Geek4414 after updated to 8.1.

Just changed the DNS to: Primary: 122.56.237.1 and
Secondary: 210.55.111.1

this afternoon, and everything is working sweet as - at last! :)

1366020 2014-01-29 04:38:00 Its a known issue for several months with Telecom, they are currently testing out a firmware update for the modems to resolve

in the meantime change your PCs DNS to use a public service like 8.8.8.8

For the uninitiated, here is the info about setting the DNS . . .

Is there any Pros or Cons with leaving the DNS set to the Google DNS instead of the ISP DNS?

I have just been running ipconfig /flushdns each time it goes haywire, seems to work after that . Hope they release a fix soon .

1366022 2014-01-30 12:23:00 The pro is your internet works.

I'm not aware if any cons, maybe slightly slower DNS lookups

if I was you, i would log a fault with Telecom so they realise how widespread this is and roll out the firmware fix faster

1366023 2014-01-30 19:26:00 You may use Telecom's DNS, it works well.

Here is Telecom's DNS:

Primary: 122.56.237.1
Secondary: 210.55.111.1
