1365712 2014-01-21 18:03:00 Do you have a CD/DVD that came with the PC that has the mother-board drivers? You need to load the drivers so that the LAN driver (and others) can be setup. XP installation disk does not contain them. Is there any documentation for the PC that you can follow? Bryan (147)
1365713 2014-01-21 18:06:00 i got a cd that does say drives but i couldn't get it to work other then that i don't have nothing to go by Lillia101080 (16893)
1365714 2014-01-21 18:44:00 Look at the model number of your PC - usually on back or underneath.
Go to Dells website, support - driver downloads.
Select or enter model number and then select which O/S you have....and download them.

You may need to do this on someone elses PC, copy onto a USB stick and transfer to your PC....as without LAN you won't have internet....

1365715 2014-01-21 19:18:00 i can't seem to find the drivrs that iam needing to get. i have a service tag b103s61 Lillia101080 (16893)
1365716 2014-01-21 19:28:00 The drivers etc are here (www.dell.com). According to the site that service tag is a dimension 4700

So you need the chipset drivers under video, dont know what the video is (there's more than one driver for video), the modem if it's got one, and get the first file under network for the LAN. The file under audio for sound.

1365717 2014-01-21 20:32:00 i still can't get that to work either. Lillia101080 (16893)
1365718 2014-01-21 20:45:00 My apologies if this sounds vague, at work at don't have a PC to test this on. Put the drivers cd in the drive, get XP to search for the missing drivers from the CD drive. They should find them automatically. the_bogan (9949)
1365719 2014-01-21 20:49:00 If the Driver CD is for the Dell, generally you put it in, when it runs select the Driver you want to install .

It will then put it in a folder on the C drive with a number something like R1234567 . If they dont auto run from that folder ( often they wont) , you can right click My Computer on the Desktop, then properties / Hardware Tab / Device manager, right click the item you want to install, update Driver, when the wizard runs, aim it at the folder that has the drivers on the C Drive, you may have to navigate down a few folders if there are several . As long as they are the correct drivers they will install .

Instructions are usually on the page that opens for the driver you are trying to install .

Example: heres the Dell instructions for a driver install:

To reinstall the NIC driver for Windows XP, perform the following steps:

1 . Click Start, Right-click the My Computer icon, click Properties .

2 . Click the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button .

3 . Click the + next to Network Adapters . Right click on the appropriate network adapter, click Properties .

4 . Click on the Driver tab, click the Update Driver button .

5 . Select Install from a list of specified location (Advanced), click Next .

6 . Click Don’t Search, I will choose the driver to install, click Next

7 . Click the Have Disk button .

8 . Verify that A: is entered in the Copy manufacturer’s files from box or use the Browse button to point to the directory the driver was extracted to . (i . e . c:\dell\drivers\… . )

9 . Click OK to install the driver .

10 . Verify that Intel® PRO/1000 MT Network Connection is highlighted .

11 . Click Next, click Finish .
