1365350 2014-01-17 04:38:00 Just installed Zorin os 7 dual booting with Windows XP. From the installation instructions was the following:

"After the installation you will be prompted to restart the computer, after the restart the computer should boot up into a menu where you choose which operating system you want to start. To select one use the arrow keys to highlight an option and press the Enter key to start the highlighted one."

My problem is that after restarting the computer, the choice to select the OS that I want to start does not eventuate and the boot defaults to Zorin. I can not see how to get to XP. Can anyone help this 70yr old fart please? Thanks

1365351 2014-01-17 04:56:00 Boot into zorin, open a terminal, enter the following commands and copy&paste the output here so we can see where you are at.

fdisk -l <--- small L
os-prober

1365352 2014-01-17 05:33:00 Sorry Fred. You have lost me. I am in Zorin but what is a terminal and where do I find it ?:) smurf (6545)
1365353 2014-01-17 05:38:00 Like a "command prompt" on win.
Should be on the menu somewhere (sorry, don't use zorin).
edit: under 'Accessories' apparently.

1365354 2014-01-17 05:52:00 Ok Fred...thanks for your reply. This is what shows by copying and pasting:

Usage:
fdisk [options] <disk> change partition table
fdisk [options] -l <disk> list partition table(s)
fdisk -s <partition> give partition size(s) in blocks

Options:
-b <size> sector size (512, 1024, 2048 or 4096)
-c[=<mode>] compatible mode: 'dos' or 'nondos' (default)
-h print this help text
-u[=<unit>] display units: 'cylinders' or 'sectors' (default)
-v print program version
-C <number> specify the number of cylinders
-H <number> specify the number of heads
-S <number> specify the number of sectors per track

It is all goobley gook to me. I hope it means something to you :)

1365355 2014-01-17 06:29:00 Ok, that is the 'how to use' text, which means you mistyped the 'fdisk -l' somehow.

Edit: it's a good idea to include the line you type in, as well as the output, in your copy.

Sorry, original post was from phone and (obviously) misleading ...

First command:
fdisk -l
Will give a list of the partitions on your disk (just to be sure XP is still there! and to show the layout)

Second command:

os-prober (all one word)
Utility to detect other OS's on the PC (to make sure Zorin knows XP is there).
