1365191 2014-01-14 08:29:00 Hi, I upgraded to 8.1 from 8.0 and ever since my sd card reader will not work. I even pluggred in my video camera with its micro sd card in and that will not detect.
I have tried installing drivers and reinstalling the reader but no luck. I was hoping someone reading this may be able to help me please

1365192 2014-01-14 08:34:00 Did you install these if its 64 bit? (h10025.www1.hp.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1365193 2014-01-14 09:29:00 Hi there, yes I did, made no difference unfortunately wooda2 (4837)
1365194 2014-01-14 19:08:00 Update, will read sd only, unable to read micro sd in adaptor or micro sd in an adaptor put into a usb stick, this used to work using these methods wooda2 (4837)
1365195 2014-01-14 19:19:00 Update, this appears to be the micro sd. It is a class 10 i got for the camera, but I cant get it to detect so I guess I will have to bin it wooda2 (4837)
1365196 2014-01-14 19:30:00 You may find the reader / drivers are not fully compatible with 8.1.

There are numerous posts on HP's forums of people complaining about hardware not working after upgrading to 8.1. The problem is the Drivers that work in W8, wont always work in 8.1, as HP have not yet sorted them all out and updated.

Being an HP, look on the Task bar for the HP upgrade manager, run through it and see if theres any important driver updates, the ones listed on the site will not always work.
BUT a warning, after updating some drivers you may find it boots into a black screen, and its NOT the graphics drivers causing it, so make a restore point first so you can wind it back if you have to.

Theres LOTS of complaints also about not being able to upgrade at all to 8.1 -- its a driver issue, the error is 0xC1900101-0x???? the ? will be different numbers which will relate to different drivers / hardware.
Got a persons HP laptop here now, been trying for several days to get it to run right, the problem is HP use modified drivers on some of their hardware, ( THATS the problem) so you update using their drivers, things work, ( for a short while) then if you run any MS updates it crashes again, so MS or the manufactures ( NVidia, AMD, Intel etc) and HP drivers conflict.

BTW, its not just HP, other brands are doing the same, from what I've seen so far its mainly HP, followed by Samsung.

1365197 2014-01-14 21:55:00 Hey thanks for that, makes sense.
I have been reading the posts and trying a few things. Sometimes it works but real slow, but won't work after a reboot. I will just have to transfer via desktop till there is a good fix. Will try the upgrade manager and post back.

1365198 2014-01-14 23:25:00 The upgrade Manager is actually the wrong wording ( sorry about that) if you look on the Task Bar, there should be a Big HP Icon, click that, it will open the HP Utility Center, then click HP Support Assistant, that will give some options you have to select, one I used was advise but dont download updates ( words to that effect) and you have to tick send information to HP yes /no.

1365199 2014-01-16 07:16:00 I used the Support Assistant but no newer drivers there, but, I ended up cleaning dust out and that has sped other things up. And this reader works with my older class 4 cards but not my new class 10 one! So perhaps that's it. My class 10 can be read fine in our desktop. wooda2 (4837)
1365200 2014-01-16 09:56:00 Does the card reader support SDHC cards?? Not all do. I would say the class 10 card is SDHC. Thats why the desktop reader can read it, but this one cant Speedy Gonzales (78)
