1345543 2013-06-12 19:28:00 My daughter is studying again, and we can't find a Win8 driver for our very old Canon printer at home. I want to get a home printer, preferably wireless, and cheap ink (I know this combo is impossible but one can dream can't one?). I would presume most models these day come out with Win8 drivers? Price range - as I said, cheap - around $150 if possible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

1345544 2013-06-12 20:51:00 In the canon range there is the MX456 which is print/scan/fax, has wireless, airprint and 2 cartridges which means that you can specify in the printer driver to only use the black cartridge, it is a very basic model but is below that $150 nedkelly (9059)
1345545 2013-06-12 21:06:00 The MX436 is also under 150. $119 atm at NL. Its what I use here. Wireless faxing/scanning/printing. I havent used the fax yet tho. It also supports Airprint. I wouldnt get brother too many cartridges and they're too expensive for 4 of them Speedy Gonzales (78)
1345546 2013-06-12 21:43:00 Why not buy a Brother laser. They way cheaper that any inkjet unless you have a real need for color.. paulw (1826)

The MX456 is the replacement model

1345548 2013-06-12 22:52:00 I second the laser suggestion . Cheaper running costs and better results for text . I have a brother multifunction laser that cost about $270 and is so much better than my inkjet .

Even if I end up replacing it when it runs out of toner it is still cheaper than using my inkjet ($130 for a set of original cartridges) individual cartridges be dammed they all run out together near enough anyway .

One important note though, I print infrequently and cheap inks dry up before I ever get to use them . Not an issue with toner .

1345549 2013-06-13 11:17:00 I have gone over to a laser printer. With inkjet I had the problem of ink drying up because of infrequent use. The toner cartridges for a laser can be dearer to buy than inkjet cartridges but the toner lasts so much longer and is cheaper in the long run. Bobh (5192)

1345551 2013-06-13 22:38:00 Lasers are great. We skipped inkjets other than a A3 photo model for photog. We had a color dot matrix before all this. On our second b/w laser :D Looks more professional too. Nomad (952)
