1345335 2013-06-24 23:03:00 Yeah I'd have to agree there, I'd say that's the case with a lot of people. Many are happy with the status quo and just want it for email and Facebook and the occasional YouTube clip.

BTW - Welcome back :)

1345336 2013-06-24 23:26:00 The main bottleneck is the drinking straws we have to suck data through from overseas. If half the money that is being put into UFB was put into a decent cable to the USA etc most people would be more than happy with what they have now. Tony (4941)

I thought the cable was already more than enough, they just like to rip people off when using it?

1345338 2013-06-25 00:36:00 Yeah the current cable is more than ample, and it's not that expensive either, in fact it's probably one of the cheaper parts of running an ISP, I dunno why so many ISP's go cheap on it :p Chilling_Silence (9)
1345339 2013-06-25 02:04:00 So why has everyone been so disappointed that the recent venture to lay another one has failed? Just because of the lack of competition? Tony (4941)
1345340 2013-06-25 02:33:00 The reason for slow UFB being less than popular is the same as the reason that overseas traffic is seen to be slow.
Telecom is involved.

Well another would potentially mean even more data at even faster speeds, but by diversifying your customer base across the two you're going to be stretching profit margins quite thin, so my money would be on one eventually buying up the other for example... I'm still of two mins about it to be honest.

I'm liking how this looks though: www.telecom-media.co.nz

1345342 2013-06-25 08:11:00 Snap have just upped the data cap on their $75 UFB plan to 50Gb, so now it compares to our VF plan but $20 cheaper a month gary67 (56)
1345343 2013-06-25 08:30:00 That would get you 100GB on 2talk VDSL2 ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
1345344 2013-06-25 08:40:00 So down my street in TAT South there's a sign up from chorus saying something about laying a pipeline for UFB.

Given what Orcon says on their website, it looks like we'll get it at their predicted time of early 2014.

I wonder, will we have netflix by then? If not, then I don't think we'll need it. As it is, I use 40-50gb a month of our 200gb plan on copper, and that's with heavy use compared to what we used to have.
