1365969 2014-01-28 17:53:00 I doubt the memory speed has a significant impact on frame rates, CPU & graphics speed will be the biggest factors by far. Faster memory won't hut though if that's what you want - it'll probably default to DDR3-1600 speeds though and have to be manually set for 2133 in the BIOS. A quick look at the sites you probably already googled shows CPU speed as the biggest factor.

I've never concerned myself with high speed or low CAS RAM for my gaming rigs, for smooth gameplay all that's ever had a noticeable effect to me is the amount of RAM not the speed. I just use whatever speed is standard for the CPU/MB combination and buy a brand with a good reputation/warranty. Lately it's been kingston due to a compatibility problem with corsair and one of my motherboards. If you get to the point where a few single digit fps gains from faster RAM makes a game play smoothly the whole system is likely marginal for the game/settings you are using.

That said I don't play FSX and I know it's a very demanding title.

1365971 2014-01-29 23:36:00 Thanks for that info.
Will take it on board bit it still doesent confirm a speed for my particular needs.
Yes the mobo defaults to 1600 unless it's in OC mode, which is where I will be using it.
I have looked at many OC reviews on google with the P8-Z77-V & i7-3770k.
Memory used varied from DDR3-1600 through to 2400.
All seemed to work.
Most were using fixed bios settings.
The one I took the most notice of was on Newegg TV with the guy from Asus.
He was using the auto OC function on the mobo as I will be.
But he didn't recommend any particular memory speed, only that lower CL is better.
Compared to some of the results they were getting, my 4GHz is only a minor OC.
So I am intending to run the stock cooler at first & see how it goes.
My current system runs fine like that, although it's stock cooler is larger than the i7 one.
Not sure if they are interchangable yet.
