Just need people to stop eating meat , takes more resources to grow my steak than my bread (sort of, on a global scale) Do love my steak though. |

The cages `should be ******* banned now not when the egg suppliers say in the distant future. A chook should be able to have a dust bath, perch at night, eat greens. Not even a fan of barn eggs either, chicken still does not see any sunlight and the lighting is controlled to trick the chickens into laying more. All egg laying chickens should have the joy of catching a bug and sunbathing outside. |

| 1346553 | 2013-06-25 03:51:00 | I stand by my too many people theory . If everyone in the world decided to only eat healthy organically grown fuit and vegatables and free ranging animals a large portion of the worlds population would starve . We are well past the point of sustainable population levels without extensive farming and mass production of food . How many of you own enough land to feed yourself from, what percentage of the population does? how many people live in areas of the world where food is scarce? I agree that battery hen farming is nasty and shouldn't be done, but bitching on here won't do anything about it . I don't care enough to change it, do you? And is it really the worst problem in the world for you to start on when you get around to fixing everything? Don't get me wrong, I don't stay up at night worrying about the worlds population or any of this stuff . I have 20-40 years left on this planet at most and I'm confident the food supply won't run out by then . But you don't have to be Nostradamus to see disaster coming, there is only so much space in the world and so much food able to be produced and yet the population keeps growing . Our descendants will choke this planet under their numbers, cause mass extinctions of other species, or destroy themselves fighting over it if the growth continues unchecked . It's simple maths + human nature . Gloomy I know, maybe they'll figure it out and everything will be great, maybe . |

| 1346554 | 2013-06-25 04:29:00 | we do as a society waste a hell of a lot of food too though. It's not so much 'too many people eating it' as 'too much going to waste'. Mum never buys battery eggs, and we always try to buy free range stuff. I mean if we're nice to our dogs, and yet pigs are smarter than dogs, why should we keep pigs in cages like we do? |
