2014-01-24 00:07:00 | What would be the closest spec Gigabyte & Asrock boards to the Asus P8Z77-V | Driftwood (5551) | |
2014-01-24 02:14:00 | www.gigabyte.com That gigabyte board is quite comparable, on pricespy from $223... There are not apparent Asrocks available, and there are alot more gigabytes/asus boards for cheaper (apparently as cheap as $113 on pricespy but be careful, that site is sometimes incorrect) What are you needing the board for, do you have system specs for me to review?

2014-01-24 04:31:00 | Thanks. I was looking at using DDR3 2133 memory but that mobo dosent appear to support it. The P8Z77-V has the specs I need, was just wondering what the alternatives were. If any.

It's not worth it on a intel board, save your money and get a pair of G.Skill DDR3-1600 CL8 Ripjaws blue; The current Intel CPU's only support 1600 MHz and even with overclocking, the gain is so miniscule for so much, it's just not worth wasting money on in my opinion. Just get a board that matches what you need, I can't really see the difference between 1600 and 2133 being tangible in any aspect, especially for the premium you're paying for a higher end mobo and ram modules. |

2014-01-24 18:31:00 | This system will be running Flight SimX with ORBX FTX. Currently have a i7 3770K & are looking for mobo & memory. It will be overclocked to about 4.0 GHz Will be using 2x 4GB DDR3 dual channel Memory specs are a grey area so advice is appreciated. There is not a great price difference between DDR-1600 & DDR-2133 So would go for whichever is going to work better. Graphics will be either GTX 680, 770 or 780 This system will be replacing a P5Q-pro with E8600 currenty running at 4.0 GHz Has been quite adequite till now. But with the latest high definition aircraft & FTX graphics it is struggling at times. Had concidered going to LGA 1150 with Haswell but have been told they will run hotter doing the same job.

2014-01-24 19:54:00 | Haswell is hotter, you are better off just OC'ing the 3770k. I suggest you get 2 DIMM's of the G.Skill memory I mentioned (it's quite cheap) and a 270x or 280x. A 270x is more comparable to a 760, whereas a 280x is more comparable to a 770. If you really did want to go overkill I suggest you get one of the new 290x's ... Any aftermarket cooling solution should work but I would suggest either an Asus DC2 or Sapphire Toxic board, bearing in mind these do have a small premium. You could spend all the money in the world on the best today, but it'll be outdate in six months. I almost got a 280x but then I realized that it was such a waste, unless you're 3d gaming or using multiple screens a 270x is more than sufficent, So I brought a 270x. Unless, of course there is something about nVidia that you simply 'must-have' but I actually haven't seen any compelling reasons to vote for the green team lately, mantle however I have to take me hat off to the red team.

2014-01-24 20:07:00 | Sorry about the DP - was over my time limit. Here's a few links to some cards from playtech, feel free to chose your vendor, this is just an example of them, but the ones I think have good value. Gigabyte 270x BF4 (www.playtech.co.nz) - 359 Asus 270x BF4 (www.playtech.co.nz) - 359 Gigabyte 280x (no bf4) (www.playtech.co.nz) - 549 Sapphire 280x BF4 (www.playtech.co.nz) - 579 Sapphire Toxic 280x BF4 (www.playtech.co.nz) - 599 Gigabyte 290 OC BF4 (www.playtech.co.nz) - 719 There are a few more 290/290x aftermarket designs floating around but I don't have the time to find them. I strongly suggest you get one with battlefield 4, the 270x will do 60 FPS at high settings at 1080p BEFORE mantle, it will hopefully do about 50 fps on Ultra with mantle, but the difference between the two detail settings is usually negligible. as a avid battlefield gamer, I can tell you that there is no finer game for aerial and ground combat, on occasion you can sometimes get a good navel battle going on too (speaking from BF3 experience, my BF4 has not downloaded yet due to origin be a little slow and a powercut which reset my download from 48%)

2014-01-24 21:02:00 | Thanks for that info but will definately be going the other way. I have nothing against ATI, good cards, have had some in the past. But there are two things made quite plain on the FS forums. Go with Intel & nVidia.

Why are you suggesting less powerful cards?, the OP has already stated they are going for 770 or 780?, you dont even know what resolution he is playing!? |

2014-01-28 05:06:00 | Anyone got another opinion on the memory specs for this build, bearing in mind what it's going to be used for . Or should I go for the G . Skill DDR3-1600 CL8 Ripjaws blue as sugested . This does tend to conflick with info I have read on FS forums . Some say the frame rate goes up with faster memory . I
