252265 2004-07-14 08:49:00 Everytime I try to install my 'V8 Supercars' racing game the dreaded blue screen appears. (This game is on a DVD not a CD ROM.) This happens at different stages of the intallation process - the highest I got to was 75% - have tried a different DVD player and also used a different DVD disc. Naturally I close down my virus checker and disable all automatic start-ups. Got plenty of HD space and RAM. My OS: Windows XP Home. Appart from this my computer works very well, no problems with the CD ROM installations. Any ideas what might cause this. Thanks fritz (1552)
252266 2004-07-14 10:18:00 Its got some pretty dodgy copy protection that causes issues,I would suggest you consult the codemasters forum.

Haven't looked in there for a fair while but if they are staying true to form they will be contining to ignore the problem,a bit like the Chinese and Sars....

252267 2004-07-14 10:38:00 Yes, more than likely you have a useless cd-rom/burner. Got one here actually a new AOpen Combo drive, has major troubles with Ubisoft games with Safedisk (original cd even). I have to take the cd to my computer, rip it then send the image file over the lan so my brother can play it.

V8 Supercars 2, Codemasters, StarForce 3.3.35.02
or
V8 Supercars Race Driver, SecuROM 4.84.72 0149

Which one do you have?

252268 2004-07-14 12:07:00 Thanks 'metla' and 'kiki' I got V8 Supercars 2, my DVD player is brand new, and my DVD is an original copy. fritz (1552)
252269 2004-07-14 20:24:00 It could be Starforce drivers.

This nasty new copy protection also causes major problems with USB devices.

Have a look at your system to see if they are there. If they are you need to remove them with a file called "StarforceClean.exe" which will download from the following link.

www.adventurecompanygames.com

To get around it you will need to halt autorun for the DVD so it does not stealth install these drivers. (Hold down the shift key when inserting the disk) Then just browse the disc and run the "setup.exe" for the game (thus bypassing the stealth install completely till you first try to run the game).

If that is not it there appears to be an issue with AC97 sound and the game. It may be that disabling the sound in your BIOS would allow the install to take place if you do indeed have AC97 sound on your PC (its a long shot though).

252270 2004-07-14 20:30:00 Should have said. You can reenable the AC97 sound in the BIOS after install if it in fact does turn out to be something like this. You will need to disable "surround sound" in the game options though after reenabling the ac97 in the BIOS. John Grieve (367)
252271 2004-07-15 12:00:00 Thanks John for your post, it was most helpful. Did what you suggested and got rid of the 4 Starforce files. My game installed without any trouble, - thanks again
Cheers, and good luck
