252235 2004-07-14 04:38:00 Using someones Compaq FP5315,not impressed with these LCD's the way they blur when scrolling.

Have things improved with these things?,I ask this because I think we all fancy one.

252236 2004-07-14 04:46:00 I hope so! Last I heard there were a lot of problems with LCD. promethius (1998)
252237 2004-07-14 09:52:00 There have been several informative threads in the last few months re: LCD's. A quick search on PF1 will reveal all.

FWIW I have a Samsung Syncmaster 172x LCD, which is used for gaming, video editing, web design etc and it performs great. The response time is very fast and blurring is not noticeable. It takes a couple of hours to get used to using an LCD the first time, but pretty soon you'll forget you are. They have come a long way in the past year and I recommend you try one. But do some research, read some reviews and go look at some in a shop to decide. They are not all equal, some are absolute shockers and some are stunning so check them out carefully.

252238 2004-07-14 20:59:00 I have recently bought a Phillips 150B LCD 15" to replace my 17" CRT.
No blurring noticeable. While playing flight sims there is a difference in the refresh from the CRT but certainly no real problem.

The plus side is all the space I regained on my desk. :-)

This monitor also seems easier on the eyes.

252239 2004-07-15 00:59:00 Thanks chaps.

I have a two year old CRT,but being a boy who likes the new toys, look longingly at the LCD's,as El says for space saving for a start.

A little aside, chap who purports to know reckons the TV's of the future will be LCD's as apposed to plasma.

Ummmm.... How far in the future are you looking.

I may not have that much time left! :-)

252241 2004-07-15 01:32:00 He was talking 5 years EL.

I t would seem they are sorting out all the probs such as side viewing and as we know once all these things are sorted the price will plummet.
I will wait 2 years b4 purchasing one myself.;)

252242 2004-07-15 01:36:00 LCD TVs are a reality now, and have a much better resolution and expected life than Plasma.

The large screen sizes still have a price problem.

I moved to LCD computer screens a couple of years ago.
The clarity and lack of flicker are worth it, the space and energy saving features are a bonus.

Looking at any CRT these days makes me wonder how people tolerate the poorer resolution that most give.

252243 2004-07-15 01:52:00 In relation to television?...looking at the price and size of an LCD TV i wonder how anyone can justify spending so much money to view content on such a small screen and broadcast at a low resolution, plus the fact that 99 percent of tv is dribble. metla (154)
252244 2004-07-15 02:14:00 I am with you on that Metla.

But your 99%? - I have an issue with that.
99.8% at least is rubbish. Only BBC Top Gear merits watching.

Ironically the picture generally looks better on a small screen, due to the low resolution of the transmission.

When you think of a 42" plasma screen having a resolution of about 800 x 600, its not so much pixels per inch, more like inches per pixel.

Our aged TV transmission system is analogue, so there is plenty of degradation of signal quality all along the chain. The worst loss of signal quality (and therefore effective resolution) happens at the customer end, with poor aerial systems.
