252425 2004-07-15 03:15:00 Hi guys - I downloaded "Adaware" in an attempt to rid my pc of the Trojans that AVG can't - it seems to run fine until it gets to scanning file 12,500 - when it gets to this point the pc shuts down.
Its not as thought it gets to 12,500 and waits and the pc goes into standby - its as soon as it gets to 12,500 its click goodnight nurse.
After turning the pc back on there are no reports or anything as to why.

Anyone got any ideas?
HP 720A ME IE6 OE6 AVG Spybot ZA

Cheers Shaun

252426 2004-07-15 03:33:00 Anti-virus programs deal with Trojans, Adaware and Spybot deal to Spyware.

A reason, you may not be able to rid AVG (or any other AV programs) is that it may be locked-up in one of the restore files. Have you tried turning off the restore, restart PC and then scan? Then turn restore back on.

Also, to get another opinion and possible cleanout, is an online scan done here (housecall.trendmicro.com)

If you could put a name to this Trojan, someone will be able to help. Also, if it isn't locked away in a restore file, then it could be causing your adaware problem. You could either try Spybot (www.majorgeeks.com) or try running Adaware in safe mode.

252427 2004-07-15 03:47:00 Thanks for that - I run with restore disabled - and yes the viruses are hidding as .cpy file in _restore - even though they shouldn't be.
I saw the hint about getting rid of them on another thread - so will have a go when I get home.
The Trojan's names are things like Small 6 and Small 4 plus a few others - which make up the total of 49 of which AVG can only "heal" one.
Will let you know how I get on after a reboot etc.
Thanks for your suggestions

some of the more nasty spyware/virus/trojens will shut down whatever is trying to access it and in your case the entire pc.

if the online scanner dosn't work try running the virus and adware scanners in safe mode.
