| 252419 | 2004-07-15 01:58:00 | Hi everyone - lately my HP 720A, running ME and with IE6 has been having a few probs. The first :- vast numbers of Trojans ID'ed by AVG but unremoveable - has possibly been solved by another posting - thanks for the tip regarding turning restore off, reboot, and then restore back on - my restore has always been off. The second is that when running IE6 - it comes up with a RUN32.dll error and the only option is to close IE. If I do a Ctrl-Alt-Del it shows more than one session of RUN32 - would this be a cause for it crashing - and how do I limit is to only 1 session? The other problem is that in "Temporary Internet Files" there is a folder called "Contents IE5" - this folder is always filling up with files - 100's of thousands of them - as stated above my restore is disabled - so why (how) do all these get here? Your help would be greatly appreciated Shaun |

| 252420 | 2004-07-15 03:49:00 | A nifty little program to clean up Internet and other leftover files is Ccleaner (www.majorgeeks.com). Just be aware that ticking the " Autocomplete form history" will get rid of names/passwords that automatically fill out when you visit a site . So if you use it and don't know which name/password you give, then do not tick that box. The "delete index.dat files" is a good one to tick as they do build up over time and use. |

You will find heaps to choose from with a search on Google but one you could try is The Cleaner ( . majorgeeks . com/download . php?det=1666" target="_blank">www . majorgeeks . com) which has a 30-day trial . Before running any type of cleaner, eg anti-virus, trojan cleaner, etc it is a good idea to do a general tidyup of your computer by deleting all the temporary files, temporary internet files, history, index . dat files, etc etc . That is normal . The temp internet files are saved to your hard drive in order to save your browser from having to download those files from the internet everytime you visit webpages . It makes your browsing faster - as long as you don't have too many . Have a look through the forum's FAQ section, in particular at the Spyware, Maintenance and Deleting Temporary Files FAQs . Link to FAQs top right of this page - they take a while to load though, so do be patient . |
