| 252769 | 2004-07-16 05:37:00 | In Linux, from time to time we have to use an editor. I have used Midnight Commander quite successfully, but feel it might be limited for some operations. I used to use Vi (or Vim), but have found it difficult to remember how to use if I've not used it for a while, and that is generally the case as I only have the time to dabble in these things occasionally. People have recommended "Joe"; which is included in the Linux distro I use (Libranet 2.8). I have also heard that Cooledit is an excellent editor, but unfortunately it needs Python 2.1; I have a later version of Python and it is not compatible with Cooledit , which makes me think it is an "oldie" and maybe a bit out of date (as a matter of interest it was developed by Paul Sheer, who wrote the "Rute Tutorials". So, what do the Linux Gurus in Press F1 world think? |

There is a great vim tutorial that you can find on most (I think) distros. Just enter into a console window vimtutor to start it. For a GUI editior, I tend to use Kate. | Jen C (20) | ||
