252674 2004-07-16 00:38:00 Hi, im looking at running a few servers over my local pc on some form of jetstream starter/surf connection . Currently I am on jetstream starter with my isp as xtra and when I contacted them about it they told me that users could not host servers over a jetstart account . Now disregarding the whole 'no static ip' point, I have a couple of questions I didn't really trust asking xtra help .

When they say that that it cant be done, is that because they actually block server-destined traffic with jetsream starter?

Is the restriction on servers done on telecoms level or at xtras level, and if it is xtras restriction, are their any isps that allow server hosting over jetstart plans? .

Is it the same situation with the new jetstream surf plans, are they restricted from hosting servers in the same way as jetstart?

Thanks, Stuart

When they say that it can't be done, they mean that they don't want it to be done. If you do it and they find out then you will be in trouble. Simple as that. :-)

Yep, one I know off is Ihug, at lest two Press F1 members have server running of the Jetsurf / Jetstreem starters account from ihug

Yep, that is if xtra is the ISP

Note: But there was some news a few months back about telecom tighten thing up with ISP which allow server on there jetsream starter/ Jetsurf accounts

Hope this helps :), if you have any more question just ask :)
