252517 2004-07-15 11:44:00 Hi guys,

I just got a new cellphone, a 3315. I used to have a 5110.

The 5110 has a 3.6v Ni-MH battery and the 3315 has a 3.6v Li-ion battery.

My mate has a 3310 with the same shape battery as the 3315 only its Ni-MH.

Can my charger which was for the 5110 charge the Li-ion battery. It seemed to work fine charging the 3310...

Cheers

252518 2004-07-15 12:25:00 you should be ok......

the phone has all the smart charging stuff and the power pack is the same across both phones as far as i know.

switching the batteries between the two phones would be very bad.

252519 2004-07-15 23:57:00 Why would it be bad?

If it provides the same voltages, same current, same regularity, same polarity, fits in the right way, then what does the phone care where the power is coming from?

Although come to think of it, they dont recommend it :D

252520 2004-07-15 23:59:00 actually as far as i know all nokia phones use the exact same charger, and i still use the charger from my old 5110 on my 2280 and my dads phone.

go right ahead

252521 2004-07-16 00:14:00 I have a charger here for a 6110 (which used a NiMh battery)

It also fits a 6210 which I also have, but thr 6210 has a LiOn battery

It charges, but only to a point, then the phone says "not charging"

The vehicle adapter charger does the same thing.

Other chargers here will charge either with no problem.

I would therefore conclude its charger specific, and related to the current attributes or the impedance presented by the charger more than the voltage, which appears similar.

Exactly the same happens with my 3650 (LiOn), when using the 6110 charger

252522 2004-07-16 00:22:00 hmm thats interesting gf, all of our nokia chargers (about 8 collected over the years) will charge any ofthe nokia phones i have ever had/seen, even the new 'quick charge' ones that come with all the newer phones lagbort (5041)
252523 2004-07-16 00:36:00 My feeling is, if it works, its fine.

If it refuses to charge, then its not going to work!

252524 2004-07-16 02:18:00 The tendency is for the batteries to be smart. So a clever little chip in the package tells the charger what to do.

The way LiIon packs react to maltreatment is with "rapid venting", otherwise known as "explosion":D

But you are probably OK.

No worries, it will only explode once, then it's immunised ;)
