253291 2004-07-18 07:57:00 I'm to be building a new computer within the coming months and I have picked out these components...

AMD Athlon XP 3200+ = $395 ascent.co.nz
Windows XP Professional = $280 xpcomputers.co.nz
Viewsonic VG710S = $951 ascent.co.nz
Gigabyte ATI Radeon X800pro: $760 xpcomputers.co.nz
Antec 550w ATX dual fan: $250 ascent.co.nz
Kingston Dual Channel Memory Kit, 2x512MB, DDR-SDRAM, DIMM, DDR400: $410 ascent.co.nz
Samsung 52x 32x 52x + 16x DVD drive: $79 xpcomputers.co.nz
Antec Super Lanboy ATX case: $223 ascent.co.nz
Logitech MX510: $108 ascent.co.nz
Logitech Elite Keyboard: $96 ascent.co.nz
SB Audigy 2: $187 xpcomputers.co.nz
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro 2 motherboard, Socket 462, nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset, 400MHz FSB, 4xDIMM, Firewire, ATA, SATA, RAID, LAN, ATX: $216 ascent.co.nz
2x Western Digital Raptors WD740D 74GB 10000rpm: $886 ascent.co.nz
Sony MPF920B, 1.44MB, Internal, Floppy Disk Drive, Black: $20 ascent.co.nz

Are these distributors good, and can I have comments on the specs?
I also want the Sennheiser PC150 Headset but I cannot find a place which stocks them. Can someone please direct me towards a place where I can get them? Thanks.

253293 2004-07-18 09:08:00 The VG710S has in-built speakers, you might want the VE710S (no DVI) - plus you could do better on the LCD price. andrew93 (249)
253294 2004-07-18 09:18:00 Ditch the Samsung and get a dvd burner.
Imho no mouse is worth $108 bucks or keyboard at $96
but overall, in the words of Darth Vader
" Impressive "
on the subject of suppliers I have only dealt with ascent and have had no problems with them lately (earlier there distribution system had some major holes in it)

253295 2004-07-18 09:46:00 no mouse worth $108? , I just got my mx700 (~$150) and ill tell you, ill never go back to a normal mouse again, the difference is just beyond words lagbort (5041)
253296 2004-07-18 10:13:00 Have you been to www.pricespy.co.nz ? I know you can get 3200s cheaper than that!

And why not get a motherboard with SoundStorm? The DFI's are good, or the Asus A7N8X Deluxe. This way, you get sound performance rivalling the Audigy, but you get it for less and you get a WHOLE LOT MORE FEATURES too.

The other thing I suggest to save you money is to buy some 7200 RPM SATA Drives. You could probably get 400 GB for about $450. If you run them in RAID 0, then the performance increase would be significant indeed. However, the raptors are awesome, but are most useful in servers who are constantly accessing and writing data for their many clients. You wont need the performance for gaming.

Also the nVidia 6800s are coming out soon, read about them in comparison to the x800s, you might change your mind (I wouldn't.) Even if you don't, when they come out, the x800s will drop in price a bit.

the MX700 (www.logitech.com)- a nice looking mouse

I recently bought a 3M EM500 (multimedia.mmm.com N-) - I feel like Tom Cruise in Top Gun but I think I have the fine motor control of Stephen Hawking.... (that is not my hand in the photo)
