253205 2004-07-18 04:44:00 Hi I want to make copies of my VHS videos to play on our DVD player but the more recent VHS tapes have some sort of copy right system. The picture feeds ok to the computer but on playback theres a big strip down the middle. I understand there is a little box to put in the video line that removes this. Anyone know what and where? Is it legal even? kiwibits (5574)
253206 2004-07-18 04:50:00 I think Silicon Chip recently had a new construction project to do just this.
Jaycar and DSEwill probably have the kits.

You will find difficulty getting a commercially made one. Maplin ( a big English electronics retailer) were forced to destroy their stocks of such a box. Macrovision have patented the ways of defeating tallm he protection, so can legally stop the sale of manufactured units. ;-)

I use a "Belkin USB Videobus II to download my VHS videos to the computer.

It has software MGI Videowave III which I find great to use.

I purchased through Big Byte. There is an XP version available now.
