2004-07-17 16:08:00 | I am using a Dell dimension 4600i which has a CD/DVD drive that the 'Device Manager' identifies as, 'HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC 4481B' System Information tells me the same. A search of the Dell web site turned up nothing, a Google search only found data bases of drives that were compatible with various software. I have drawn a blank! Can someone please tell me where I can learn about this drive? Vince

2004-07-18 04:14:00 | I strongly suspect it's a Hitachi/Lucky Goldstar GCC 4418B. Google with just that type code "gcc4418B". | Graham L (2) | |

2004-07-18 06:35:00 | > Everest Home Edition, What is that? It is a program that can pull out various bits of information about your system - hardware and software. It may be able to provide the manufacturer for your drive. You can read more and download it from here (www.lavalys.com).

2004-07-18 07:00:00 | > I searched the LG website and drew a blank. www.lgeus.com The GCC 4480B is listed at the above link, and it seems very likely that the 4481B will be a similar drive. They are "Generic" in the manner that they appear to be unbranded for use by other manufacturers/suppliers. Therefore they may not have a direct equivalent on the actual makers website. Hitachi are also suggested by some as another possible maker, and in reality the drive could be made by a number of companies to a common specification?

2004-07-18 07:01:00 | Yes, I just ran a Google search with just "gcc4418B". It turned up 117 results compared with the 71 that I got last night. I will follow up on that later. Thanks Vince. | Vince (406) | |
