253169 2004-07-18 05:44:00 Cardfile looks a good program for storing actual information copyed and pasted from posts . That would be useful for looking up info when you are offline .

For your purpose, keeping the links to threads in a Word table along with a short description might suit you better . I have such a Word table for the bookmarks that I don't need very often but don't want to discard . Word can make the URLS into clickable links if you paste in the entire URL copyed from the Address Bar .

>Actually, thinking about that further it would probably be better to have the topic to the left and the thread number to the right . That way I could keep the topics in alphabetical order and find the topic easier .

It makes no difference to Word which side of the table you have your entries, Word can sort on which ever column you choose . It would look tidyer if you have the subjects in the left column though .

>In fact to expand that thought, there would be two separate topics as part of the table - one being "Firefox tabbing - how to" - thread 48667 and "Internet banking - risk minimisation" - thread 48667 .

Might be best to keep it as two columns and make two entries for that thread, one for "Firefox tabbing - how to" - thread 48667 and another for "Internet banking - risk minimisation" - thread 48667 . It would make sorting a little more logical . ;-)

253170 2004-07-18 06:26:00 Why not just commit the useful information into your brain e.g. long term memory, that's what it's used for. Well that's what I do anyway. ;) kiki (762)

If you are using Netscape/mozilla/firefox you can add extra information to your bookmarks under Properties, details field.

253172 2004-07-18 07:05:00 Hi Fire and Ice
Thanks for your thoughts ! I have downloaded a trial of version 3.1 and if it suits my needs at slightly under NZ$19 it is really cheap and will be well worth it. That last bit about keeping to two columns is what I was trying to convey
- so obviously I may have not done that too well ;\
----- I will trial both the program and a table in Word to compare.

Kiki - I do try to exercise the old grey matter - and being on PressF1 is a good start !! B-)
Nevertheless, so many small tips and nuances of the same subject come up that if you have many different and interlocking topics constantly being explored then I think you need to keep track somehow. You are probably high on the Mensa scale and do not need to ...! ]:)
