I think you are right Godfather, I found the exact same drive, full name, made by Hitachi, and LG Electronics.

Computers at school, all the laptops have those. They are CDRWs and DVD ROMS as far as I know. Interesting.

(Much like the Atapi drivers, eh?)

Hope this helps.
Also does anyone know where to get software to allow the same drive to record to DVD+R blank discs?
It keeps saying 'no writable disc in drive' :badpc:

it could just be a combo - cd-writer / dvd drive/player
