| 252987 | 2004-07-17 09:55:00 | I have winxp and a window told me I had a trogan horse virus and to run avg to remove it. I ran avg free edition and it didn't pick it up. When I looked at the test results it said there were about 10 files (documents and settings) that avg couldnt open and said they were not tested. Why is this and how do I test them? | starfish (3019) | ||

AVG is not able to remove it from this location and you will need to disable System Restore and reboot your computer. After rebooting run AVG again then re-enable system restore. | tommy (2826) | ||

AVG does the same to me for those document and settings files but I do not have any viruses or trojans on my computer . AVG has been saying the same thing each time I've used it . . . Cannot open: not checked . . . They are all NTUSER . DAT and ntuser . dat . LOG files in following areas: C:\Docs & Settings\LocalService\ . . . . . C:\Docs & Settings\Local Service\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\ Windows\ . . . . . C:\Docs & Settings\MARG\ . . . . C:\Docs & Settings\MARG\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\ . . . . . . C:\Docs & Settings\NetworkService\ . . . . . C:\Docs & Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\ . . . . . also the following 2 C:\HIBERFIL . SYS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM . LOG give the same . . . Cannot open: not checked . My computer is not acting strangely even though these aren't checked, nor does adaware or spybot pick anything up . Maybe this is normal, and these files have nothing to do with the problem . I'm just new to this game, so ignore this if its a load of rubbish and no help . regards, Marg . |
