253362 2004-07-18 12:05:00 I have a problem with my favorites. In Internet Explorer nothing shows up but if I try to add something, it says it is already there(which it may be as there used to be some in there) and when I try to access the folder thru Windows Explorer, as soon as I click on the folder I just get thrown back to the last directory that was hi-lited. The attributes for the folder are set to "System" and are greyed out and I can't alter it.
Anyone help?

253363 2004-07-18 12:21:00 What OS and are you logged in as admin if XP or 2000? Sounds to me as though someone has been playing with the security settings and has denied access to the files or removed some permissions?? Berryb (654)
253364 2004-07-18 12:50:00 Hello bones and welcome to Press F1.

If you could supply a little more info we could look into this. As Berry stated it would be helpful if you could provide your operating system version (Windows xx?), plus your current version of IE (under help, about), whether you have recently changed anything (upgraded your OS, installed a Spyware utility, changed user accounts, changed any security settings, did a system restore etc.), if there have been any other issues, or if any little fingers have been playing with your PC. The more info the better.

Thanks, Andrew

253365 2004-07-19 09:10:00 Sorry, should have thought of that. OS is Win 95, not sure of IE version (its on a friends computer...... don't you just love friends like this?) I'll try to find out more. What I don't get is why I can't even select it. Sounds a bit sinister maybe? All I know at the moment is they had a virus, someone loaded AVG(Free version) for them, charged $200, and its been like it ever since.
I'll try to find out more. Thanks in advance for your patience and replies.
This is my first go at this F1 thing, nice to have some help.

253366 2004-07-19 09:20:00 IE version is 5.5 bones2 (5895)
253367 2004-07-19 13:07:00 Hi Bones

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

I can't find an exact match for the problem on the MS technet site but this (support.microsoft.com) article may help if the favorites folder has been "hidden" by mistake - the linked article will show you how to unhide it.

If this doesn't work have a look on the MS technet site (support.microsoft.com) - you may find a solution to the problem there.

However, this (support.microsoft.com) article highlights that IE 5.5 is no longer supported by MS on Windows versions prior to ME, so your friend may want to consider upgrading to a later version of IE (provided it is supported by Win95 & the PC has sufficient resources/grunt) which may resolve the problem or even using an alternative browser such as Mozilla.

Hope This Helps.
Andrew

253369 2004-07-21 10:48:00 Thanks guys but I haven't found anything that helps yet. Maybe boot from a floppy and remove system attributes from the folder? Run Spybot? Had a problem getting that to work with W95 once before tho. bones2 (5895)
