I wonder if you could use the cd eject software to sent a signal to the laptop with a ribbon cable installed, would the voltage be enough to trigger a solenoid? No, what could it trigger a switch to the washing machine solenoid or would you need a board out of a CD player to interpret it hmm, so why not the motor as well instead of a solenoid, a little gearing or leverage....... | 253629 | 2004-07-20 13:11:00 | That joke cd drawer opener/closer is called cupholder.exe. I have it on my desktop and find it quite handy. I made a keyboard shortcut for it. Ctr+Alt+H brings up a small box giving two choices: Extend Cupholder or Retract Cupholder. It is about 179kb The address I downloaded from seems to be a dead link now, but here is one which is the same program I think. I have not tried it, but it has the same name. Beware that during the course of my search a couple of sites mentioned that cupholder exe. is often used to insert nasties when it is downloaded. cupholder exe. (www.fortunecity.com) You will see cupholder.exe listed on the 6th line down. Cheers. |

| 253631 | 2004-07-21 03:56:00 | Thanks for all the ideas guys. I didnt realise it was so damn difficult to get a PC to do something like turn a light on and off. :8} Ive rang a couple of mates about getting digi cam photos but it doesnt look like well get anything before the weekend. They insist it will take lighting technicians etc. etc. and quality controllers for the contents of the flagons! :( And I guess all this will be carefully choreographed to fit in with the football. :D Will Monday be too late for the competition Bruce? :( |

Hmmm, on second thoughts perhaps thats not a good idea in a Windows environment. You'd have to do some awful fast drinking if the PC froze between "Beer on" and 'Beer off". |

I click on the desktop icon (or press Ctr+Alt+H) which opens a small selection box. Within that box I can mouse click (or Tab and Enter) on one of the two buttons: Extend cupholder or Retract cupholder. It then opens or closes. In case it helps, here is an earlier Press f1 thread for Dec 30, 2003, headed CD ROM Control, where I made a few comments on the cupholder program. As I mentioned above the link no longer works. (For interest sake, the address for that link was:www.copydesk.org ) Here is the 30 Dec, 2003 Thread, CD ROM Control (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) You are welcome if you want a copy of my cupholder exe. but I don't know how to go about it. (Win 98). Cheers. |

| 253634 | 2004-07-21 12:21:00 | Hi again Steve. I did some searching and think that the following might be the same as the cupholder prog. I have. It has a slightly different name, "The Cupholder", but it is exactly the same size as my one. 138kb. Don't forget to scan for viruses etc. www.thepocket.com Scroll down, to 4th from the bottom, on the left, where it says: "The Cupholder" (138KB - EXE) New and improved Cupholder from Jay Altizer Cheers.. |

| 253635 | 2004-07-21 23:22:00 | Now your talking Oggy. Voice operation, how up market is that? As an aside, Im looking at using the scheduler facility to sound a electronic siren and flash the advertising lights on the bowser, say 15 minutes before kick off for a fottie match, or when a race starts that Ive got a punt on. :D However, at the moment were still trying to get the beer to pour electronically. Anybody any thoughts on an external modem being persuaded to operate a relay to operate a solenoid etc. etc.? ?:| |

Im sure if you pulled it apart and used some creativity it would work. When i was at high school we used some stuff similar to lego mindstorms and did all sorts of crazy stuff. | Pete O'Neil (250) | ||
