| 254136 | 2004-07-21 10:54:00 | Hi guys, I want to change my Asus MyLogo2 image... I have successfully done it but the only problem is the image has to be in 256 colours! What I want to do is convert an image from its existing format (usually jpeg) to the 256 colour standard.... this will prevent the image from looking really crap on the screen at boot-up. I've tried saving the image as a 256 colour bitmap but the loss of colour coding makes the image look really horrible. Is there a program I can use that will convert the image to 256 format without making it look terrible. I've tried with Photo Shop 6 but I have had no success... any thoughts would be appreciated. cheers chiefnz |

The image format makes very little difference and in my experience, if anything bitmaps provide the best you are likely to get. To get acceptable results you need to start with an image that is already acceptable to the eye at 256 colours. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

You would also have to decide on an appropriate image. Cartoons or stylised images will look quite good without dithering, whereas photographic images can look quite crufty if you attempt to dither them, and will look totally crap without. | BIFF (1) | ||
