253906 2004-07-21 01:50:00 I have 3M 3300 transparency sheets which are designed for laser printers.

Does anyone know if it is OK to run them through a inkjet or bubble jet printer?

I am a little scared to run these through my new Epson R210 if it is going to melt on the head!!!

Any experience with this from anyone?

TIA

253907 2004-07-21 02:05:00 Hi,
An intersting problem - the sheets are mylar, and no way will they melt in an inkjet. The problem is that the sheets are intended to accept powder, and hold it stable untill it's heat fused. The inkjet will spray liquid on a shiny non-porous surface, so the ink will try to form litttle blobs instead of staying put (due to the gloss) and the drying will be slow (Due to the non-porosity). Even when it dries, it will not adhere to the glossy surface very well, so will smear very easily. It may do for what you require, but I would try it with a very small amount of print first, (a single line of text, not bigger than 12 point font) just in case the ink smears on the printhead.
Ink-jets and transparencies have not been a happy combination for me up to now, but your mileage may vary.

Good luck,

They worked fine.

253909 2004-07-21 04:28:00 The requirements for xerographic and inkjet are different. But they might work in the inkjet. It won't damage the printer. If you want to use up the expensive sheets, you can use them in a photocopier. Graham L (2)

253911 2004-07-21 05:57:00 Thanks for all your help people...

I tried it at work first (best to break their gear rather than mine!!!) on a HP deskjet
It came out OK (ish)

I have just now tried it at home and it seems worse than at work!!!

So now I know that it is best to get Inkjet transparency paper...

Note to self: Check the damn printer before buying stuff!!!

Off to Stationary House tomorrow!

Thanks all
