253847 2004-07-20 10:16:00 Hi
Is there any point running Stinger on a Windows 98 (SE) system? I'm sure some of the nasties it targets don't affect Win98 systems anyway so perhaps this is true of the whole thing?

253848 2004-07-20 10:23:00 Just had to do that today to someone who opened an infected e-mail and got the bagle worm. He could connect via dialup but could not download or update his Anti Virus program.
Gave him stinger and he was up and running again in 15 minutes. Oh and yes, it was Win98se.
Please keep in mind, stinger is a cleaner, not an anti-virus program. Because it doesn't require installing, it generally is not affected by the virus/worm/trojan, which is why it is so useful.

253849 2004-07-20 10:23:00 stinger works fine on win9x. some of those it targets may only effect XP/2K but some can be hosted on a 9x system. tweak'e (174)
253850 2004-07-20 10:24:00 Some of the viruses/trojans that are included in the latest Stinger removal utility are for non NT based OS's as well. So if you think your system is compromised, it is certainly worth still running it. Jen C (20)
253851 2004-07-20 10:27:00 Great. Thanks folks. I cleaned up my daughter's friend's laptop with Stinger a week ago and thought I'd download it onto my PC too just so it's there incase something sneaks past McAfee in the future sometime. oggy (1250)

You need to keep downloading the latest version then before each check. The Stinger is regularly updated to cover the lastest and most popular viruses/trojans ,as this list is forever changing.
