254342 2004-07-22 18:57:00 I have PC Pent 2 with Win98. There are 48MB of RAM and no space for more. Any chances to add, say external? Would BIOS exept more?
Thanks. Taly

254343 2004-07-22 19:44:00 never heard of 'external' ram ...............you'll have to get some more ram which is 'larger' than the ram you have in there..... drcspy (146)
254344 2004-07-22 22:41:00 unless you have an early p2 motherboard which uses EDO ram you should be able to get more ram for it. if it does use EDO ram it would be easier to get another motherbord (and cpu/case/psu if need be).

i have seen external ram (slots into pci slot) but its not a cheap way of doing it. only good thing was you could fit upto 4 gig of ram ;-)

254345 2004-07-22 23:59:00 Hi there! Thanks.
By the way, I was told about "stick" RAM. Looks like a thick boll pen. Can be plugged into USB externally and have up to 512 MB.

254346 2004-07-23 00:14:00 USB connected Flash RAM is a data storage solution like a removeable disk drive, its too slow to be used as OS RAM.

Its also not available to the system until the USB drivers have been loaded and initialised, and by then Windows is running and its too late to recognise it as system RAM, even if it was possible.

254347 2004-07-23 00:32:00 Thanks. Checked it with the source of my information and yours is correct . Taly (4598)
254348 2004-07-23 03:31:00 I've got a couple of full size ISA cards which each have the immense amount of 2MB on them. ;-) One of them is still in use extending a 386 from 4MB to 6Mb so it will run Linux.

Times change. I've got one laptop with 96MB maximum. It's not really enough. :-(
