i can only connect my xp pro laptop to my w98se desktop

via wireless by entering the w98 shared folder name into the xp's address bar in view workgroup computers

only the XP workgroup is visible so i open it type in the w98share name
eg. \\w98filename in the address

& it opens

I cant see it in workgroup computers??
I can ping only one way
xp to 98
cant ping 98 to xp

w98 is set as a user on xp
& logged into the 98 as the same

all settings are correct

same scenario with fiewalls on or off

this sux

any good ideas?

254729 2004-07-23 22:45:00 what firewalls are you useing ? some can block it even when they are off.

what tcp/ip settings are you useing ?
is netbios enabled on both pc's?

Zone alarm free on the xp

netbios is ticked but greyed out on 98
ive tried default
enable & disable on the XP

same tcp/ip settings as ethernet LAN

which works ok

W98 wireless card is a dicksmith usb wireless 802.11b
USB 1.1 Adaptor

XP is a inbuilt toshiba job

by typing wireless ip of xp into a ie browser , address bar on w98
eg. \\192.168.0.2

bingo shared folders available


still cant ping that ip

or see it network neighbourhood

strange stuff

any guru's got any idea whats up
